Can you please elaborate? There is a compass icon when you rotate the map or switch to "north is always up" mode.

I'd like to have this too.

Currently, the "movement direction is up <-> north is up" button has two fixed arrow-like icons:

I would like that arrow to be changed so the arrow always points north in any mode.

Interestingly, this would sort of require inverting the symbology: currently, arrow straight up means driving direction is up and arrow at angle means north is up. With "arrow points north" as an invariant, it would obviously be the other way around.

Motivation: Google Maps gets this right, and I look at this icon a lot. On short trips in the city, it helps me keep my sense of orientation when intentionally deviating from the apps navigation due to local conditions (traffic, construction, hunting for parking etc.). On longer trips, it helps me better understand where I am going and how far along my route I am (am I already around this mountain range?), and make better guesses which half of the highway might be more appropriate when it splits and the navigation instructions aren't quite clear or missing.
