(healthcare:physiotherapist)
Thanks! We didn't add any of healthcare tags yet, because of the focus on travelers. Any ideas about where to find good icons for it and which other healthcare tags should be rendered?
So far Organic Maps does render the amenity:doctor tag and even displays an icon for it.
But theres also healthcare:doctor and that should probably rendered as well.
I dont know where you got that icon from but there might be more like it / just re-using the doctor icon seems fine as well
The following are the healthcare tags I'd render, taken from https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:healthcare
healthcare=dentist
healthcare=doctor
healthcare=hospital
healthcare=blood_donation
healthcare=clinic
healthcare=physiotherapist
healthcare=psychotherapist
healthcare=sample_collection
healthcare=speech_therapist
healthcare=vaccination_centre
Everything else is less relevant (to me) and could be rendered with a generic icon, if even
let me know what you think :)
Thanks! Can you please share, what is your main use-case/interest in having these features on the map?
And besides all of that, not limiting Organic Maps purely to a traveler map would be something that im in favor of
A swiss army knife of maps sounds much nicer than having multiple maps apps for whatever it is that I want in that moment
Would it make sense to make these tags searchable but not rendering them on the map?
I am thinking of larger cities where the map could be cluttered by too many POIs. Such specialists are rarely searched by randomly panning a map and are less important as waypoints since they are not as visible (in Europe you will often have a small sign next to a normal looking door, as opposed to restaurants or stores which are very visible and can be used to communicate a certain location)
Would be looking weird if you're able to find something while searching, then click on it and then it just zooms to an area without icon.
And it wouldnt clutter the map if you just hide some less relevant POIs until you zoom in further. When zooming in, I'd like to see all POIs, otherwise i wouldnt zoom in that far.
Also makes exploring the area around you a lot more pleasant
Haha yeah, that would be weird.
But for the cluttering, in some places in Paris there are 8+ different doctors at each house number. It would be important that some POIs (the ones which are easy recognisable from the street and are more often searched by panning the map) are prioritised over others as it might be impossible to render all of them
What about not rendering the healthcare POIs unless searched for? But yes, at least prioritize others.
I believe organic maps is already doing that as of right now. If there are too many POIs in a given area, then only one will be displayed until the user zooms in. This also applies to completely different POIs.
So I guess there's already a solution to the issue in the app. It's just a matter of what POI should be ranked higher if all POIs in the area share the same tag.
See my answer to that question in the reply above
(organicmaps/organicmaps#1050 (comment))
+1 on this. As someone who uses these types of facilities, I would much appreciate this being added. For now, I think just a simple healthcare icon would be great. Maybe in the future, better icons can be added.
Physiotherapist will be added with #3844.
Regarding the other healthcare tags:
healthcare=dentist
,healthcare=doctor
,healthcare=hospital
andhealthcare=clinic
should only be used in combination with the tagamenity=<value>
, thus they will be rendered already by the amenity type.Regarding the rest:
I copied the table of the
healthcare
tags and removed every value which has a count below 1000. (source)IMHO
alternative
andpsychotherapist
are the more interesting ones to be added.I will think of an icon that could be used, in general I would not reuse the doctors icon, as they are a different kind of medical institution.
For
blood_donation
,optomist
,podiatrist
andspeach_therapist
I have simple icons in mind, which feature a drop, eye, foot and lips in a red circle, similar to the doctors icon. I will create a mockup for them, but it still needs to be decided whether the tags will even be added.Thanks for your work! I would also add some types that are more rare, but still are often needed/used by people, even with some kind of generic icon (or even without an icon, just to be searchable).
When it is easy to add a missing POI to the map, some rare types may become more popular.
So I created some icons, let's discuss them.
Please let me know what you think, I am happy for every feedback.
And don't hesitate to let me know if you dislike something.
General icon
For all other categories I had no good ideas on how to express the place as an icon.
So I thought of an generic icon and came up with these two ideas.
I prefer the first one, as the second one looks like love or something is involved because of the hearth.
Your icons are good, but they won't be recognisable on devices with smaller screens. It would be great to simplify them as much as possible and enlarge the central part. The minimum supported resolution now is 18x18 pixels. Try to render it and see if it looks recognizable.
Also, man and woman look similar to a toilet...
Reduced details and simplified them.
IMO way better to identify them.
Below you see the parts at different seizes. (from what I saw are the common ones used in OM)
Feedback is welcome
I think the ear is recognizable
But I can't seem to find a beard in this speech therapist one
Looks more like a open mound to me
Beard is a wrong word ) It looks non-human.
I'll have a look on how to improve it.
Right now laboratory uses the hospital icon (red cross), but the new
sample_collection
icon could be used for the laboratory.I'll create some variations for it (round bottom, filled, multiple tubes.
But I think multiple tubes might be to small in the end... lets see.
Good question :D, at the moment I am out of ideas for this one
Would you prefer something like this, with the whole head filled?
(just an extra quick mockup)
Noted will do so when icons are ready and I add them.
I would stick to the high tube, as the shape in your picture is already used for
chemist
. Furthermore the small high ones are more common for blood and urine samples (based on an image search).Here are some variations:
Speaking for my self I like the third one the most.
Head with just the face and rest cutoff looks weird to me.
Had the idea to make one third of the icon the head, while I like it, it is very different from other icon styles.
Third one is a way simplified version, maybe this is even enough.
Thanks for your efforts, that's so easy to compare now )
We can move on, and then improve icons based on real feedback. I hope these icons also look great in a dark style.
Okay perfect.
I'll get my hands on it on the weekend.
